Baoje tool received the requirement of customized grooving tool. This case requires long tool life, fine surface roughness and stability of the machining process. Customer asked that Baoje can propose proper tool to solve these problems. We will detail how Baoje can optimize cutting tool through design in the following paragraphs:tool.

Original grooving tool design – Baoje modify standard grooving tool – G318-0505-3V13

After customer provided the partial workpiece drawing, the preliminary evaluation of Baoje cutting tool can be used is Baoje modified standard cutting tool with tool number G318-0505-3V13, the original cutting tool is with sharp angle R0.0 mm.

The front cutting tool tip is modified to R0.03mm from customer requirement.

According to the results of the applying cutting tool to workpiece drawing, the modified G318-0505-3V13 tool will be with the tool width at 1.8mm only, the cutting resistance will not be excellent, and the tool rigidity is slightly insufficient, which may result in poor tool life and excessive surface roughness of the workpiece.

How does Baoje optimize the cutting tool – the tool body oval shape design – Baoje customized grooving tool

In order to improve the insufficient rigidity of the tool, in addition to design the first layer with a width of 2.0mm and the second layer with a width of 2.6mm, the tool body is changed to an oval shape design (generally a circular design). These optimized design can enhance the rigidity of the tool and improve the stability of the machining process.

According to this case, the modification of G318-0505-3V13 may be able to use, but if the result cannot achieve customer expectations. Baoje will suggest customer to use Baoje customized grooving tool instead, the oval shape design of the tool body can overcome the issue of insufficient rigidity of the tool.
